There’s an unconsciousness, stylishly clothed in a commercial imperative, that must insist that the world’s going to hell, that people are hopelessly selfish, and that you in particular are not really successful. The point is to make you feel insecure, envious, a little desperate, and apathetic. When you succumb to that emotional agenda, you’re more ready to accept less; to surrender your spiritual growth.
Luckily, it’s easy to recognize this destructive strategy that pours from our screens and speakers. Just ask yourself: Does it inspire Fear? Does it propagate anxiety?
